Stimulus Funds Will Pay For Water, Wastewater Projects

GOFFSTOWN, N.H. -- New Hampshire will receive more than $60 million in drinking water and wastewater projects as part of the federal stimulus plan.

Several projects are set to get under way this year. Along the Piscataqua River in Goffstown, many homes in the flood-prone area will be placed on the town water system. The $2 million project will help alleviate a major problem tied to flooding -- well water contamination.

Water-agency lawyer says incident may have contaminated supply

Officials at a Rialto-based public water purveyor are accusing San Bernardino County of illegally demolishing and burying a hazardous waste-disposal facility and likely contributing to water contamination flowing through Rialto.

Lawyers for the West Valley Water District say state and federal laws were violated when the facility was demolished, and they say the debris spread across a wide area and was buried.

The California Department of Toxic Substances Control, or DTSC, is investigating what happened at the Broco Inc. site, named for the hazardous-waste disposal operation located there from the 1960s to the 1980s. The county purchased the property in 1994 to expand the Mid-Valley Sanitary Landfill.

SAN DIEGO ---- A "boil water" notice affecting northwestern San Diego will be in effect for up to 72 hours following a water main break at Torrey Pines State Park, officials said Monday.

Residents and restaurants of Torrey Pines, Torrey Hills, Del Mar Mesa, Carmel Valley and Pacific Highlands Ranch have been advised to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking.
